Off Track

Off Key and Out of Tune

Today I turned on my computer and began to type. I had finished about two lines before I looked at the screen and saw a confusing jumble of letters. I had unknowingly placed my hands one key to the left of proper starting position. Therefore, each word I wrote made absolutely no sense. The same could happen if I played the piano and put my hands in the incorrect position. The mistake would be audible and detected quickly, but the short musical interlude would be miserable sounding.

The same is true of my Christian walk. I may be off the "beaten path" a little; perhaps putting self first and exemplifying other characteristics which are not Christian. I would sound and look unappealing and make no sense as a Christian, even by being one step to the right or left of where I should be.
I am thankful God wants to place me back where I need to be, in the proper position in His beautiful plan. I need to remember to "look" where I am and "listen" to how I sound. Am I glorifying God in my actions and words? This is my desire, and I am thankful God taps me lovingly on the hand when I am out of place. How about you?

Just let me go...Let me go....

Tightly Wrapped

"... and let him go." John 11:44

There's been a food fad around for awhile now called 'wraps'. Veggie wraps, ham and cheese wrap, chicken Caesar wrap; you name it. 'Tightly wrapped' is a phrase sometimes used for people who are high strung; those who might need to lighten up or "get a life". Lazarus was a guy who was tightly wrapped. Not in a nervous angst but literally "wrapped". The bible tells the story (John 11).

Lazarus was one of Jesus' best friends; someone He could hang out with, relax, have dinner with, talk things over with. Apparently Jesus often spend the night with Lazarus and his sisters whenever He went to Jerusalem.

Anyway, Lazarus died. When Jesus arrived at Bethany, not far from Jerusalem, He went to the tomb with Mary, Martha, and the others. He was moved to tears, and after praying to His Father, He called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!"

The dead man came out, with all the burial cloths on, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Then the bible says, '"Jesus said to them, 'Take off the grave clothes and let him go'."

Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead and gave him life. Yet He told the people to rip off and unravel those grave clothes, so that Lazarus could freely move on.

Jesus is still in the business of saving lives, calling us to leave a life that leads to spiritual death, and urging us to embrace a spiritual resurrection and new life by believing in Him. Then, sometimes, He says to us: "Loose him/her, and let him go".

This is where forgiveness can come in. We can keep others tied up with unforgiveness. They can have new life in Christ, be 'born-again', and yet be bound up unless we forgive and turn them loose.

The gospels all speak about forgiving others as we have been forgiven. It is a mandate that we make the decision to choose to forgive, whether we feel like it or not. Surely we don't want to be 'tightly wrapped'; it is our privilege, and responsibility, to allow our brothers and sisters the same freedom.

What Good Are Words

Fools live to regret their words, wise men to regret their silence.
-Will Henry

Words.
The words, or way they are spoken, are what make society function. We depend on communication to live; to survive.
Fools and Hipocrites are talked a lot of in the Bible, especially the gospels. They talk and talk, yet nothing is of substance.
Wise men usually choose not to waste their words, but in the end they always seem to want to say more than they could.

A good life goal would be to choose your words carefully; to be weary of your words, or of what you choose not to say. These things are what men base themselves upon, yet words just come and go, with no substance or meaning at all.

"Over My Head (Cable Car)" Lyrics

"Over My Head (Cable Car)"
The Fray
"How To Save A Life" (2005)

I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a queue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's got to be
It's coming down to nothing more than apathy
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Let's rearrange
I wish you were a stranger I could disengage
Say that we agree and then never change
Soften a bit until we all just get along
But that's disregard
Find another friend and you discard
As you lose the argument in a cable car
Hanging above as the canyon comes between

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

And suddenly I become a part of your past
I'm becoming the part that don't last
I'm losing you and its effortless
Without a sound we lose sight of the ground
In the throw around
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down
I won't let it go down till we torch it ourselves

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

I really love the beat and rhythm to this song.
Whatever, eh?

Deep?

Yeah, that's right Laurel. I can be deep!

I've been getting these quotes from Daily Wisdom, so all credit for the quotes themselves goes to them. The thoughts and pure ideas are soley my own. I have yet to throughly search the site, but I plan on doing so in the near future.

The next moment is as much beyond our grasp, and as much in God's care, as that a hundred years away. Care for the next minute is just as foolish as care for a day in the next thousand years. In neither can we do anything, in both God is doing everything.
- C.S. Lewis

Time just is. It is always and will forever be there. As unexplainable as it is, the question of time is such as the question of the universe.

One smart kid

We can forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.
- Plato

This passage is implying that children are innocent beings, unaware of the darkness that surrounds.

Humankind - in itself - always feels a need of explaining unknown things. Therefore we force upon ourselves ideas and thoughts of surreal powers.
Man takes pride in believing in the afterlife and other unknown forces of nature, until those things take him prisoner. The things he placed faith in and relyed on he is now afraid of, because it is at that moment when Man realizes that the earth is the only, and only is the earth.

City and Colour...New solo project

City and Colour, in case you didn't know, is Dallas Green's side project. He is a member of the Candian Alt/Screamo band Alexisonfire. I like their work, but I just love lyrics (as you can probably tell). Most (okay, almost all) of their songs are just too hard to really get the lyrics without looking them up. I love lyrics as they display a message that can reach so many people sub-conciously. Anyway, here is one of my new favourite songs...

"Save Your Scissors"
City and Colour
"Sometimes" (2005)

So go on
And I will refrain
And I'll keep on running this neverending race
maybe next time will be the right time
and maybe next time will be your time

So save your scissors
For someone else's skin
My surface is so tough
I don't think the blade will dig in
Save your strength
Save your wasted time
There's no way that I want you to be left behind
Go on save your scissors
Save your scissors

So why does it always seem
That every time I turn around
Sombody falls in love with me
This has never been my soul intention
And I have never claimed to have patents on such inventions

Just save your scissors
For someone else's skin
My surface is so tough
I don't think the blade will dig in
Save your strength
Save your wasted time
There's no way that I want you to be left behind
Go on save your scissors
Save your scissors

There is something that I must confess to you tonight
To you tonight
And that is I expect nothing less from you tonight
From you tonight

Go on save your scissors
Save your scissors
Save your scissors

Drops Of Jupiter by Train

I recently re-discovered this song, and I thought I would share some of these powerful lyrics. Enjoy.

"Drops Of Jupiter"
Train
"Drops Of Jupiter" (2001)

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's time to change, hey, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey

Tell me did you sail across the sun
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star
One without a permanent scar
And did you miss me while you were looking at yourself out there

Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, hey
She checks out Mozart while she does tae-bo
Reminds me that there's time to grow, hey, hey

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as plain ol' Jane
Told a story about a man who is too afraid to fly so he never did land

Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back to the Milky Way
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind
Was it everything you wanted to find
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there

Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you're wrong
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had . . . and me

Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's time to change, hey, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey
