We can forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.
- Plato
This passage is implying that children are innocent beings, unaware of the darkness that surrounds.
Humankind - in itself - always feels a need of explaining unknown things. Therefore we force upon ourselves ideas and thoughts of surreal powers. Man takes pride in believing in the afterlife and other unknown forces of nature, until those things take him prisoner. The things he placed faith in and relyed on he is now afraid of, because it is at that moment when Man realizes that the earth is the only, and only is the earth.
